The problem

New managers either change everything in month one or nothing for a year. Both cost trust with the board. The first 90 days decide which kind of manager they think you are.

When to run it

Start on your first day in the role. Put the day 90 board check-in on the calendar before the end of week one.

The steps

  1. Days 1 to 30: learn the calendar

Build one list of every deadline, filing, renewal, and event for the next twelve months. Ask the outgoing manager or president for the Management Transition Handoff Packet, or fill it in yourself as you go. Anything with a due date goes on the list, even if nobody can explain it yet.
